As arginine circulates in the blood, the enzyme, nitric oxide synthase, controls a reaction in which a terminal nitrogen atom of arginine is combined with a molecule of oxygen to form NO and the amino acid L-citrulline. Also mediating the reaction is NADPH, which is a major niacin-containing redox-active "electron storage" compound.

Put simply, dietary arginine is the primary source of nitrogen molecules for NO. Without Arginine in the diet, there would be no NO, and without NO there would be no erections. Arginine also plays a major role in the sexual functioning of women.

Researchers at the University of Exeter in England recently reviewed the results of using yohimbe in seven clinical trials involving 419 men with erectile dysfunction. The men in these studies had impotence due to either psychological or biological factors, such as diabetes or prostate cancer. According to the lead researcher E. Ernst in the Journal of Urology, yohimbe outperformed a placebo by considerable margins - for example, 62% to 16% and 71% to 45%. This means that, without the men knowing whether they were taking the herb or the non-active substitute, yohimbe produced objective and, literally, measurable results.

This is like tying a tap up to prevent anyway from shutting off the sprinkler hose. This inhibition will increase the flow of blood through arteries into the penis, while at the same time decreasing the flow of blood out of the penis through veins. Recent human studies have shown that yohimbe can increase the blood levels of the neurotransmitter norepinephrine, one of the body's pro-sexual chemicals. Effects can include increased libido, increased sensation and increased stamina - all these were repeatedly reported by Dr. Georgiou's patients taking Natural Vi. (1989) reported on 60 patients getting 60 mg ginkgo for arterial erectile dysfunction that had not responded to papaverine injections. After 6 months, 50% regained potency and in 20%, new trials with papaverine were successful. In the others, 25 % showed improved arterial flow but no change in erection and 5% exhibited no change. (Brown, 1995). In some studies, men took 50 mg Ginkgo per day for 12 to 18 months. At 20 cents a capsule that would be only about 75 to 100 dollars a man. "Half regained their erections. . .Ginkgo appears to be very effective in the treatment of arterial erectile dysfunction."
